MORE Wyre Forest NHS workers will be stepping out from their jobs on Thursday as national union GMB has issued its formal notice of strike action.

A 24-hour stoppage by members in the ambulance service will commence at 12.01am and will continue until 11.59pm on January 29, while fellow unions Unison and Unite's ambulance members with commence a 12-hour strike from noon.

GMB will join the other health unions as the rest of their NHS workers will take a 12-hour stoppage from 9am until 9pm.

Rehana Azam, GMB national officer, said: “It has taken months to get the talks started in the NHS pay dispute.

“We are all well aware the pressures on NHS staff who have worked tremendously hard despite government taking an axe to their independent pay review body recommendations.

“Should a tangible offer emerge as a result of these current talks GMB will take that offer back to members.

“We are not in a position to call the strike off until we have such an offer.”

The action is in protest at the Government’s decision to reject the 1 per cent pay rise for NHS staff as recommended by the independent Pay Review Body in 2014.

Talks are currently ongoing between GMB and health bosses to "get a tangible offer on the table" for its members in order to stop the planned strike action.
