A COUPLE who have raised £31,000 for charity during their married years have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Dennis and Mary Pulling met at Clows Top Rock and Roll Dances when they were young, and married in 1965.

Mrs Pulling said: “Dennis lived in Birmingham, and I met him when he used to visit his auntie. We met at a Rock and Roll Dance at Clows Top.”

The couple married 50 years ago, on Friday, January 22, 1965, at Sacred Heart and Holy Souls Church in Acocks Green, Birmingham. For a short while, the couple lived in Birmingham, before moving to Cleobury Mortimer for 35 years. They eventually moved to Stourport-on-Severn in 2000, where they have lived since.

Throughout her life, Mrs Pulling worked as a machine operator, while her husband worked as a high voltage cable joiner.

When asked what the secret was to a happy marriage, Mrs Pulling said just being together.

She added: “Well I don’t know really, we just do everything together. You just love each other.

“What can I say, I said from the beginning, we always go and do everything together. We are never apart.”

The couple have three children, Denise, Martin and Paul, as well as five grandchildren.

They have raised £31,000 for various charities over the years, including the Midlands Air Ambulance and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

Mrs Pulling said: “We organise a rock and roll dance once a month, for the first Friday of the month. It takes us back to when we first met.”

The happy couple celebrated with a party on their anniversary with their friends and family, including a surprise visit from their friends who live in Australia, Eileen and Alan Ross, who came over to the UK especially for their anniversary.
