WORCESTERSHIRE Highways gritting and snow clearing teams are ready to take to the roads this evening (Thursday 29) from 5pm, following a forecast of wintry showers.

The showers of sleet, hail, snow or rain are possible through the rest of the day and night and could be heavy, with even a risk of thunder at times.

Any snow showers could lead to accumulations of one to three cm of snow at low levels but between five and 10cm on high levels above 150 metres, according to the forecast. Road temperatures are expected to drop to minus three.

Conditions will be monitored and inspected with crews remaining on standby.

Councillor John Smith OBE, County Council Cabinet Member for highways, said: “Crews will be heading out to treat all designated primary and secondary routes this evening and remain on standby with monitoring throughout the night.

“Updates will be issued on the council’s Twitter account @worcscc and motorists should be aware of the need to drive to the conditions.”
