THREE talented teenagers from Kidderminster College are dancing for joy after being chosen to represent Team England at a global competition.

Ike Fallon, 17, from Worcester, Damon Gould, 18, from Stourport, and Jenny Lancaster, 17, from Bromsgrove, are just three of 300 nationally who have secured places at the annual Dance World Cup, to be held in Romania at the end of June.

Ike is to compete in a character solo dance, Damon in a modern solo dance and all three in a jazz trio, at the event.

Ike said: “We are all delighted to have won through to this major event after sending off our videos and we will be part of an event that attracts 18,000 dancers from 38 countries in the world to compete for medals like at the Olympics.

“We are excited about going but are also appealing to any local businesses who may be able to sponsor us to pay for our travel and accommodation costs.

“We can offer these businesses promotion at the College and on the College website and any amount will help us,” he added.

All three are also members of the Harlequin Dance School based in Worcester which has 81 students going to the Dance World Cup. They are also en route to qualify for the national dance championships being held in July.

Jenny and Ike are both studying dance while Damon is on a music theatre course. Damon has already secured a place to continue his studies at Laine Theatre Arts School in London and Ike has also got a place in the capital at the Urdang Academy. Jenny is still busy auditioning but also hopes to gain a place at one of the country’s top dance schools.

Anna Lines, dance tutor at the College, said: “We have some of the best industry-trained dancers in the country and we can really prepare learners to succeed and the fact these three have got through to the World Cup is proof that this works and the fact they all look to have successful careers in the business as well.”
