A KIDDERMINSTER store manager had a pie in the face, in all in the name of charity.

T K Maxx on the Weavers Wharf retail park, are running various fundraising activities to raise vital funds for Comic Relief, and during the half term week, they offered their customers a chance to throw a pie in the face of the store manager.

Mike Smith, from Omberseley, and his son Maxwell, happened to be walking past the store when the event was going on, and Maxwell was eager to have a go.

Mr Smith said: “We were just walking past the shop the other day during half term week, and my son asked me what was going on in the store.

“The manager was sitting at the front of the store surrounded by a load of pies.

“My son said he always wanted to have a go at throwing a pie in someone’s face, I think he liked the idea of doing it for a small donation to Comic Relief.”

Rhea Buckland, store manager, said: “The pie-ing went better than expected; we raised £35 in just spare change per pie.

“We absolutely stunk after though, but it was definitely worth it.

“We have more fundraising activities on the way, such as a fire breather and a bouncy castle.”

The store also ran an open mic event and coffee morning on Valentines Day, and raised more than £500 for Comic Relief.

Danielle Briscoe, who works at the store, said: “We are currently at 85 per cent of our fundraising target and are top of the district for fundraising and pound donations at the till points.

“We’re running a ‘design a nose’ competition where the funniest nose will win four tickets to West Midland Safari Park. You just need to come to our till points to pick up a nose and bring it back with a small donation by March 13, to be in with a chance of winning.”
