OWNERS of a Bewdley B&B swung open their doors and welcomed rival B&Bers to judge them for Channel 4 show Four in a Bed.

Sean and Maxine McGahern vowed to go on the programme, which is being aired throughout this week, not to play the game, but to show how good the Royal Foresters Country Inn really is.

Sean said: "We said we were just going to be ourselves when we learned we were going to be on the show. The other winners of the show seemed to be playing the game and they thought they were doing themselves a favour, so we said it doesn't matter where we come in the show ourselves at the place, that was as important."

The Inn went up against three other very different establishments - one in Malvern, one in Bridgend, and another in Hollyhead - and had its individual episode aired on Tuesday when the other B&B owners were taken to the West Midlands Safari Park to feed the elephants before attending an evening meal, staying the night in a room each, and sat down for breakfast.

Although what appeared to be a pretty flawless night's stay, Sean did admit that he did make one mistake which was cut out of the aired episode.

He said: "I did make one mistake - we weren't allowed to advertise any products on the show so we had all the wine in water jugs that we use in the morning at breakfast. I'd left these with the white wine in on the side after our meal and I brought them out and put them on the tables at breakfast and didn't realise until someone told me."

Contestants gave scores on various elements of their stay - which included many top scores of 10, a "perfect host" and a "spotless" comment and one jibe about a stray black hair on the toilet - then paid what they thought the experience was worth

Of the feedback received, Sean said he and partner Maxine have made the changes the guests asked for in ensure future stays were the best they could be at the £89-a-night country inn, but the pair admitted they were feeling good about the competition so far.

Maxine said: "We're half way through the competition and I think we're feeling quietly confident. But who knows what's to come."

Sean said: "At this stage everything's gone our way."

The winners will be announced on Friday when the payment episode reveals which B&B is best value for its money. The previous episodes can be watched at 4OD.
