WORCESTERSHIRE’S libraries are offering one-to-one help with reading for adults who have little or no reading skills and are keen to improve them.

One-to-one help with reading is available at Kidderminster, Worcester’s The Hive and Redditch libraries. Over the course of eight weeks students will work in the library with a learning ambassador to develop and gain confidence with their reading.

The sessions are informal and based entirely on the individual’s needs. Towards the end of the course students will know about options for further reading courses if they choose.

Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for localism and communities, said: “Being able to read confidently opens so many doors. Through the friendly and informal one-to-one sessions many of our learners are then keen to join a range of courses on the adult learning programme and gain employment skills too.

"We are really keen to raise awareness of the reading support that is available through our libraries and hope that people who enjoy reading will encourage people they know without the skills to get in touch with us. These are really informal and friendly sessions and people can get in touch in complete confidence just to find out more."
