A MAN was given a suspended jail sentence after he threatened a club doorman in Kidderminster.

Richard Hickman became involved in a fight outside the Swan Pub on February 21 before supposedly threatening doorman Kevin Yarranton with a knife.

According to the victim, Hickman threatened to stab him by saying he would 'blade' him, but the defendant denies this saying the threat was misheard and he said he would 'bladder' him.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said: "The defendant was told the police would be called and the defendant was also said to put his hand into his pocket and pull out an item which was thought to be a knife, but no knife was recovered."

Hickman was arrested and charged with using threatening language and behaviour with intent to cause fear of, or provoke, unlawful violence.

In mitigation, John Rogers said Hickman did have previous offences relating to this charge, but that they were all conceived out of alcohol.

Hickman, of Stourbridge Road, Broadwaters, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to threatening Mr Yarranton but denied the knife threat when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 12. This basis of plea was accepted by the court.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury sentenced him to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. He was also made subject to a curfew order between 8pm and 7am for 12 weeks and made to pay £85 in court costs and an £80 victim surcharge.
