A MAN 'squared up' while threatening someone in Kidderminster, a court was told.

Paul Shaw was arrested after using threatening words and behaviour towards another man in the streets after he had been drinking.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said the police had been called after the men had been seen to be arguing in the street.

"When the police turned up, there had been these two males squaring up to each other," he said.

The 37-year-old defendant was found by officers on the floor with a head injury when they arrived after being allegedly punched by the other man.

In mitigation, Fergus Maxwell said Shaw had the chance to walk away from the argument but didn't and regretted it.

Shaw, of Whittall Drive West, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear, or provoke, unlawful violence when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 12.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury sentenced him to an eight-week curfew between the hours of 10.30pm and 5am to be served at an address in Park Lane, also in Kidderminster. He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
