KIDDERMINSTER Harriers Independent Supporters Trust (KHIST) is preparing for their 35 mile walk to raise £10,000 for a charity which supports parents who lose a baby.

The KHIST organised walk will take place on Good Friday, in memory of organiser Dave Pountney and his wife, Beckie’s daughter Charlotte May, who was born sleeping in June last year.

The couple have been helped through their loss by the support of a local charity, Towards Tomorrow Together, which supports parents who lose a baby through pregnancy, birth or as an infant.

The charity event will take place on Friday, April 3, when more than 50 walkers will make their journey in one day to AFC Telford, via the Severn pathway in support of the couple and to raise money for the charity.

So far the trust has raised more £9,000 for the charity.

Mr Pountney said: “The charity offered and continues to offer support to myself and my wife, Beckie. Towards Tomorrow Together is only a small charity and have limited resources, so this money really will make a difference and enable them to help even more couples.

“No-one expects to find themselves in our position so it is good to be able to help others.

“In a strange kind of way I am looking forward to the walk. We are humbled to be joined by so many friends.

“I imagine it will be quite tough and a bit emotional at times.”

CMS Vauxhall are sponsoring the trust’s walk t-shirts.

Karl Davies, co-organiser, said: “We walked 25 miles on Sunday to Arley and back. It was lovely weather and there were some sore feet.

“I can see our target being exceeded by the time we walk on Good Friday.”

Last April nearly 50 supporters of Kidderminster Harriers walked the 65 miles in two days to Forest Green, near Stroud, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The walkers from KHIST did so in memory of former KHIST chairman Steve Millington and raised £38,000.
