A JEALOUS lover assaulted his partner after he had dinner with another man, a court heard.

Neil Garradley was left feeling scorned and left out after he had not been invited for the evening meal which his partner had gone on with a friend while he travelled back from work in Birmingham.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said the 43-year-old had been drinking on the train home and it had fuelled the incident.

"He [Garradley] had been at work and he had been drinking alcohol on the train home," he said. "He arrived at [his partner's] home and was told to leave if that's the state he was going to be in. Garradley points at him saying 'you will listen to me'."

The disagreement followed when the defendant found out about the dinner.

"The victim said he had done nothing wrong and tried to get the defendant to calm down," Mr Jones said.

Garradley threw a glass at the floor and a piece flew up hitting the victim in the face. He then took his mobile phone, tablet and glasses outside where they were later found smashed.

In interview, Garradley said he had been drinking as he was under a lot of pressure from work and reacted the way he did because he had moved from Birmingham to Kidderminster to be closer to his partner of 18 months, who had friends in the area unlike him, and felt left out of activities with those friends.

Mr Jones added that there had been four or five other occasions of domestic abuse in the relationship, but this was the first to be reported to police.

Garradley's solicitor, Fergus Maxwell, said it was a spontaneous jealous outburst and the defendant was filled with remorse and had paid for all the damage caused.

Garradley, of Butler Best Way, pleaded guilty to assault by beating and criminal damage worth £920 when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 12.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury adjourned the case for reports until April 2 and he was granted bail on the condition he had no direct or indirect contact with the victim.
