CHILDREN from a nursery school in Stourport made their own butter after being inspired by a trip to a local farm as part of their topic on farm animals.

The pupils from the nursery class at Burlish Park Primary School decided to try their hand at milking their very own cow and making butter to spread on their mid-morning snack.

Teachers at the nursery set up the nursery 'cow' using a rubber glove to represent its udders and used cream in a jar to show how butter is churned.

Teacher Emma Jukes said: "Our children had a wonderful time at the farm and we decided it would be great fun to set up a cow to ‘milk’ and to see if we could make our own butter.

"To start with, we poured some double cream into a jam jar and all the children took turns to shake it for a few minutes. After about 15 minutes, the children were thrilled to see that a solid lump of butter had formed inside the jar. They then practised spreading the butter with a knife on to their toast at snack time. It tasted delicious."
