ORGANISERS of Stourport Carnival are looking for queens new and old to help celebrate this year’s landmark event.
The annual festival is marking its 90th anniversary this year and committee chairman Pete Roberts said they were looking for previous carnival queens to join in the celebrations.
Stourport Carnival will take place on September 5 this year and the event to choose this year’s queen, princess and rosebud will take place at the Civic Centre in Stourport on Sunday, June 14.
And Midland Counties Co-operative Membership has sponsored an open top bus as part of the parade that will see former carnival royals of the past invited to take part.
Mr Roberts said: “As this is the 90th year the carnival is being run, we wanted to mark this special occasion with something a bit different.
“It is the first time that we are having an open top bus which we hope will feature as many carnival queens from the past, donning the sash again to take part.
“We want as many previous queens going back from last year to get in touch and get involved.
“The fact that we still have a carnival going strong since it was first organised in 1925 is testament to all the hard work that people have put in over the years.”
The rosebud category will be open to children aged between five and nine; the princess category will be open for those aged between 10 and 15; the carnival queen will be open for those aged between 16 and 25.
Anyone wishing to enter that competition or obtain forms to have a float or trade stall at the carnival can contact Mr Roberts at Pete’s Prints in Bridge Street, Stourport or by calling 01299 879340.
