CARPET workers from Kidderminster clubbed together to raise more than £10,000 for a number of good causes.

Kidderminster Carpet Manufacturers (KCM) held their 59th annual charity tournament at Kidderminster Golf Club on May 17 and 18, which saw workers from a number of firms teeing off to collect cash for five different charities.

The event saw £5,000 raised for Macmillan Cancer and £1,500 each for Kidderminster charities The Emily Jordan Foundation, Forest Dog Rescue, Kidderminster and District Youth Trust and Triangle Community Services.

Barclays Bank, which has supported the event for more than 20 years, also provided match funding for two of the charities.

Shaun Lewis, sales director at Brockway Carpets who is also chairman of KCM, said: “This is an important event which sees carpet manufacturers get together to raise money for charities.

“We always support Macmillan while giving half of what is raised to other good causes – this year we chose four local ones.

“I am delighted with the support we have raised from everyone, such as Barclays and Mr Tomkinsons Carpets who were the main sponsor, and we are already gearing up for our diamond event next year.”

Kidderminster Golf Club captain Alan Gregory, said: “We are proud to be associated with the charity. We are part of the community so it is important we do all we can to support charities.”

Ruth Krivosic, chief executive of The Emily Jordan Foundation, said: “We are delighted to receive this support. It will be used to provide training opportunities for people with learning difficulties to improve their chances of employment.”

Ann Jenkins, trustee at Forest Dog Rescue, said: “This is an amazing donation and will go towards things such as medical bills, food costs and improving our kennels for all the dogs in our care. We are extremely grateful.”

Matt Thomas, a young advisor at Kidderminster and District Youth Trust, said: “We are really pleased to receive this funding. It will help fund our summer programme of activities for young people in the town.”

Angela Robinson, lead well-being worker at Triangle which is a specialist dementia day care centre, added: “It is a real wonderful surprise and will support the activities we put on for service users, which helps them while also giving much-needed relief to their carers.

And Jenny Goddard, from Macmillan, said: “This is fabulous. The whole event is a tremendous experience and there is a real community feel to it with people coming together to raise money for good causes. This is very important for us to continue to provide the range of services we do across Worcestershire.”
