A 49-YEAR-OLD Stourport man in court told magistrates how he was 'too old' to be getting public order convictions.

Colin Blackburn had had a few too many drinks when enjoying a karaoke day at a pub in Oxford Street, Kidderminster, on June 9, and prosecutor Owen Beale said he was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Realising his behaviour was unacceptable, Blackburn, of Broach Meadow, Stourport, returned to the pub to apologise to the licensee the following day and said he has since been welcomed back.

Representing himself in court, Blackburn said he had drunk in the morning before going out, which he wanted to get under control, but he was also taking tramadol and citalopram for his health and that may have contributed to his reaction to the alcohol.

He said: "I have let myself down and I'll have to get control of my drinking. This is a bit of a wake up call to be a bit more sensible with drinking without a doubt.

"I'm 50 next year - I shouldn't be getting public order offences at my age."

Blackburn pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 25.

Chairman of the magistrates Sue Roberts sentenced the man to a conditional discharge.

She said: "We believe you're better than this and we don't believe you'll be back before this court again."

He was also ordered to pay £85 in court costs, a £15 victim surcharge, and a £150 court charge.
