THERE’S magic, competitions, ghosts and ghouls aplenty during October half term and Halloween at the Severn Valley Railway.

The SVR’s home fleet of heritage steam locomotives will be fired-up and ready to take passengers of journeys through the Severn Valley in half term, from Saturday, October 24, to Saturday, October 31.

Passengers visiting on October 24 and 25 will get the opportunity to see and take a ride behind world-renowned steam locomotive No. 60163 ‘Tornado’, the first steam engine to be built in Britain since the 1960s.

During their journey, children can take part in a quiz along the line, and visitors can head to the Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley to enjoy magic shows from entertainer Picklelily Circus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Coalyard Miniature Railway at Kidderminster Station will also be open daily during half term between 2.30pm and 5pm, weather permitting.

There’s Halloween fun to be had from October 29, to October 31. Daring visitors can brave the SVR’s Halloween Ghost Trains service if they dare.

The evening begins at Kidderminster, with entertainment from Disco Daddy, before the Ghost Train departs into the night.

There will be prizes for the best-dressed children, as well as ghoulish goody bags and the SVR’s stations will be transformed into ghostly scenes.

Ghost Trains depart from Kidderminster at 6pm, 7.10pm and 8.20pm and booking is essential.

Clare Gibbard, marketing and communications manager, said: “There is a whole host of family fun going on this October half-term, from magic and quizzes, through to fiendish Halloween fun – and we’ve even got a very special locomotive visiting the line – there is something for everyone.”
