A POIGNANT initiative aimed at spreading some Christmas cheer to lonely people has been launched in Kidderminster.

The Special Christmas Cards scheme is encouraging people to post festive greetings that could be delivered to elderly folk who live alone and charities.

It was started by kind Kidderminster resident Marissa Robinson who wanted her child to send Christmas cards to an elderly home for residents who might not even get a visit.

Special post boxes have been put in a number of locations including Franche Primary School, Sainsbury’s and Kidderminster Library. The closing date for cards to be posted in the boxes is December 11.

Marissa said: “It all started with I wanted my child to do some Christmas cards so I could take them to an elderly home as I know some won't even get a visit.

“So I went on facebook asking for information such as whether I’d be allowed to visit the homes without having a relative there.

“A lot of people become really interested and wanted to get involved through schools and nurseries.

“The cards will be delivered to everyone who needs to feel special this Christmas including the elderly who are lonely and charities.
