GREEN-fingered youngsters from a Kidderminster nursery dug out their trowels and watering cans to help brighten up the facility garden.

Children from Little Trinity Nursery had fun planting sunflower seeds and tending to the flowers and herbs in the garden.

The activity is part of their daily Early Years personal, social and emotional development activities, in which they are encouraged to investigate by using touch, smell and taste to aid their understanding of their surroundings, and of the world in which they live.

Nursery manager, Miss Gaynor Carter, said: “All our children love the garden and for our youngest children, between two and three years of age, it’s a fantastic way to introduce them to the natural world and to encourage exploration and build their practical skills through fun activities such as planting sunflower seeds.

“We’ve been growing flowers, herbs and vegetables in the nursery garden for many years, with our raised beds enabling us to grow ever more and diverse varieties of plants.

“It’s lots of fun and an activity which helps build personal confidence, helps with communication and aids speech development skills, whilst support learning through group work and interacting with others.”
