A FAMILY from Clows Top finished in last place when they tackled the Bridgnorth Walk – but did so having raised £300 to help pay for vital life-saving medical equipment.

Rachel Kruft Welton, 46, son Melbryn, 16, and 13-year-old daughter Eartha, completed the 22-mile sponsored walk from Bridgnorth to Brown Clee summit on May 30.

The trio finished the event in a time of seven hours and 37 minutes.

Vital money raised will be sent to the Community First Responders (CFR), to help pay for equipment for every new volunteer trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Mrs Kruft Welton, who trained as a CFR three-and-a-half years ago, said: "My job is to keep people alive before the ambulance get there by carrying emergency equipment that can save a life.

"The idea is that we can get to a life-threatening incident faster than an ambulance because we are closer.

"We raised £300 which we are really pleased with – this will help pay for kit for new responders.

"It was quite a strenuous to complete.

"I am not very fast at walking and the Bridgnorth Walk is quite competitive!

"We were the last people to finish it, but we did it and we did get to the end.

"It is the first time any of us have done this sort of thing but we are hoping that we can do some more in the near future."
