THE life of former Kidderminster minister Richard Baxter has been documented in a new book.

Undeserved Mercies, written by Kidderminster author Don Gilbert, chronicles the story of Baxter from his boyhood in Shropshire through to his time as a writer and pastor in Kidderminster.

The core of the book tells the story of Baxter’s work as minister of St Mary and All Saints' Church from 1641 to 1660, before exploring the last 30 years of his life.

Mr Gilbert, 76, who celebrated the launch of the book at Kidderminster Town Hall on Tuesday, June 14, said: "I have written a few things about local history but never about Richard Baxter.

"I have been interested in him for a very long time and started writing this book in 2010.

"He was a figure of great importance both to Kidderminster and religion in England, so it’s a book I’m proud of."

The book can be purchased for £15 from Kidderminster Library or ordered for postal delivery.
