A COMMUNITY-spirited Stourport businessman decided to repay a council’s efforts to clean up his area by rolling his sleeves up and joining in a litter pick.

Andrew Fletcher, who works for Chep Brambles as European programme manager, dedicated three days of his time working with a council team picking up litter in and around Power Station Road, Stourport.

He said he wanted to give something back to the community after being impressed with new signs installed by Wyre Forest District Council and the customer service he received after raising concerns about litter problems in Stourport.

Mr Fletcher said: “There has definitely been an improvement since the signs were installed.

“I am very grateful for the council’s response and customer service I have received and I wanted to contribute in the good work being done and to show local residents that they can join in, to keep our town clean.

He teamed up with the council team to empty bins and litter pick the area. It’s also not the first time Andrew has got stuck in to help the community – he has previously helped rangers repair a walkway on Spennells and helped move cattle at Puxton Marsh.

Councillor Ian Hardiman, Deputy council leader and cabinet member for operational services Councillor, said: “I’d like to thank Mr Fletcher for his time and effort.

“This is a great example of the council working with local people to tackle problems head on and improve the environment for all.

“We take great pride in keeping Wyre Forest safe, clean and looking good. It’s even more satisfying when local residents and businesses join with us to make positive things happen.”
