AN uninsured hit-and-run driver who killed a Stourport man, leaving him lying in the road, has been jailed.

Kamil Jussak, of Long Acre, Kidderminster, has today (Friday, June 24) been sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to causing the death of 36-year-old Stourport man, Matthew Cullum.

He died after being hit by uninsured driver Jussak, who did not stop at the scene.

Mr Cullum's body was discovered in Hillary Road, Stourport, in the early hours of August 29, 2015. Paramedics attended but Mr Cullum, who worked as a data control operative in the Kidderminster area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

At an earlier hearing at Worcester Crown Court on June 1, Jussak pleaded guilty to causing death by driving a vehicle while uninsured.

Today (June 24) the 23-year-old appeared at Hereford Crown Court where he also pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident, before being sentenced to six months in prison and disqualified from driving for 15 months.

In a statement issued following the court hearing, Mr Cullum's family, said: "We are satisfied with the result today. It was an adequate sentence.

"No sentence will bring Matt back however justice has been done today."

Sergeant Lee Baker said: "Jussak has acknowledged the seriousness of the offences and now he will pay the price for his actions.

"While this will not bring Matthew back and will do little to ease the pain and loss his family continue to suffer, I hope it provides some form of closure.

"This was a tragic incident that took the life of a much-loved family man. Our thoughts today are with his family and friends."

After Mr Cullum’s death, a statement from his relatives described him as “a great character and wonderful family man”.

The tragedy came seven years after Mr Cullum had a life-changing motorcycle crash in Stourport, when he broke his neck and spent two weeks in a coma at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital.

As a result of that smash Mr Cullum, a father and a fiance, lost the use of his left arm.
