A CHANCE to see behind closed doors at the Severn Valley Railway will be on offer at its popular Peep Behind the Scenes event later this month.

The SVR will be throwing open the doors to its engine sheds, carriage works and new Diesel Depot, allowing visitors a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes work undertaken by its dedicated staff and skill volunteers to keep the railway running on a daily basis.

Organised by the 4150 Locomotive Group, the event on July 16 allows people access to areas normally closed off to the public, while raising funds for one of the largest current restoration projects at the Railway – GWR Large Prairie Tank No.4150.

Visitors will get the chance to see first-hand the progress of the ambitious project – tucked away in the corner of Bewdley Yard, which will be open to view throughout the day.

Tours of the Carriage Shed, Turntable and Diesel Depot will be on offer at Kidderminster station, as well as a diesel cab visit and a chance to view a GWR First Class Sleeper.

Clare Gibbard, marketing and communications manager, said: “Always a huge hit with enthusiasts and the general public alike, Peep Behind the Scenes enables people to gain a rare glimpse of the work that goes into running a heritage railway on a daily basis.

“There will also be the opportunity to see the progress on some of our current restoration projects, whilst raising valuable funds for the 4150 Locomotive Fund.”
