A SHELTER in Brinton Park has been damaged by “mindless” vandals twice in the last week.

Wyre Forest District Council confirmed that the seating at the front of the loop shelter, near to the skate park in Brinton Park, was ripped from the ground on Sunday, July 10.

But, the shelter was targeted again last weekend, between July 16 and 17, when two more benches at the shelter were wrecked.

Following the first incident, Councillor Ian Hardiman, cabinet member for operational services, said: “This another case of mindless vandalism and it continues to be a frustration for the council and the community.

“It costs time and money to fix or replace the features in the park and this is becoming very challenging when we have increasingly limited resources.”

After the latest attack at the weekend, Cllr Hardiman added: “I am dismayed to hear there has been more vandalism in the park over the weekend.

“More than £1,000 worth of damage has been caused in this latest attack – unfortunately two benches have been wrecked beyond repair and will not be replaced.

“A clean-up operation is underway and repairs to a damaged wooden play shelter will be completed as soon as possible.

“Once again the children and families who enjoy our parks and open spaces are suffering for the actions of a mindless few.

“I would urge anyone who might have any information about this latest attack to contact local police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101.
