A TAXI driver from Stourport has admitted causing the death of a 22-year-old by careless driving.

Simon Lee Robinson, 43, of Steatite Way, appeared before Worcester Crown Court today (July 20), where he pleaded guilty to causing Jason Westcott’s death by driving a Peugeot taxi without due care and attention on the A451 Ringway, in Kidderminster, in November 2015.

Judge Nicolas Cartwright adjourned sentencing until August 12 at the request of Adam Western, defending.

Robinson was allowed bail on condition he cooperates with the probation service to prepare reports.

Madhu Rai, prosecuting, said that when the offence took place there were “aggravating” features in that Robinson failed to stop or to report the accident.

But, she added those issues would be addressed in court “in due course” and they were not put to Robinson.

Mr Westcott, originally from Weston-super-Mare, was discovered unconscious on the Ringway just after 5am on November 15, last year.

He was taken to hospital with head and abdominal injuries and later died.

Following his death, his parents paid a touching tribute to him on Facebook and said they were proud to call him their son.

They wrote: "We thank this world for letting you be in our life for 22 precious years and letting us have the honour of calling you son.

"You made us so proud and said such lovely, thoughtful things to us.

"The laughter and fun that you brought to us and the family whenever you walked in will surely be missed and never forgot.

"When you was a baby, we and friends would call you the little hurricane, because of the mess and devastation left in your wake.

"We still call you the hurricane but know it's for the fun, smiles, laughter and joy whenever you popped in, mum & me on edge if you was going to jump out on us.

"We can’t put into words the pain we are in. We will never ever forget you and that lovely smile, we will be thinking of you every day. LOVE YOU ALWAYS. A very proud Mum & Dad xxxx"

A Wyre Forest District Council spokesman confirmed Robinson is no longer a licenced taxi driver in the district.
