A NEWLY qualified Kidderminster PE teacher is saddling up for a gruelling challenge to help raise money for a hospital’s cancer charity that is treating her mentor.

Dani-Elle Gunn, who will start at Holy Trinity School in Kidderminster in September, will be taking part in a 100k cycle on Sunday, November 27 from 8am.

The challenge will see her set off from Stourport Sports Club and pass through Kidderminster, Bridgnorth, Stourbridge, Bromsgrove and Droitwich before returning to the club and she is appealing for more people to take part.

She is hoping to raise around £1,000 for Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital’s QE Fighting Skin Cancer Fund in honour of her fellow Kidderminster teacher and netball coach Becky Giddins.

Mrs Giddins has been battling cancer since 2007 and is currently under-going treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Dani said: “Becky trained me and is my mentor but she has recently had to leave work just as I start my career.

“She is also special friend that has been supported by the Queen Elizabeth skin cancer charity by trial drugs.

“She is extremely well known across Worcestershire through her netball and has had a hugely positive impact on so many people’s lives.

“So I would like as many PE teachers, netballers, friends, everyone really to join in and help me reach my goal to raise £1,000 that will be sent to the hospital’s charity.”

She has been supported by KDs Hair and Beauty in Kidderminster, who have sponsored her £250 bike for the challenge.

There is a £25 entrance fee to cycle and people can find out more by contacting Dani at footydani@hotmail.co.uk.
