A COUNTRY show near Bewdley is putting the region’s food producers and retailers at the top of its menu.

Organisers of the Far Forest Countryside Show have a bumper crop of attractions to appeal to foodies and have made sure businesses from Worcestershire are well represented.

The show, which dates back to 1902, will be at Callow Hill Showground on the A456 on Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14.

Show manager, David Bell, said: “Last year the food festival included people from all over the country and it felt like it wasn’t a celebration of our local produce. We want to encourage local producers and vendors who are the heart of our community.”

Festival organisers offered incentives to bring more local businesses to the event to join the wide variety of food and drink outlets at the show from around the UK.

The plan appears to have worked and show’s food festival marquee looks set to be packed with stalls and cookery demonstrations including some inspired by hit TV show the Great British Bake Off.

The event, which became a two-day show last year and attracted 12,000 visitors, will also feature a wide variety of family entertainment.

One of the highlights promises be a display of live stunts by the Mark Stannage Stunt Display Team with a repertoire including car, motorbike, fire and high fall stunts.

There will be live music throughout both days and a fashion show on Saturday evening to raise funds for Far Forest Village School.

During its long history the show has been the venue for a livestock market and although farm animals are no longer traded there will be plenty of four-legged friends on display including donkey rides, dog shows, falconry displays and sheep dog trials

For green fingered visitors, the Horticultural Theatre will host gardeners’ question time with a variety of guest speakers.
