BEWDLEY’S new £7 million medical centre officially opened its doors to residents this week.

Bewdley Medical Centre, in Dog Lane, boasts a pharmacy, 25 consulting and treatment rooms, meeting spaces, dedicated administration offices, specialist baby changing areas and the latest medical technology which will allow doctors to carry out minor operations.

The 25,000 square foot, three-storey building, will also be a community hub housing the town’s relocated library – which will open next month – and a public café. The building also has additional space set aside for future expansion, when needed.

Dr Simon Gates, GP at Bewdley Medical Centre, said: “This project was planned over twelve years ago – it is a huge undertaking and has finally provided a wonderful facility for Bewdley.

“This has been done with a lot of very hard work from all of our staff and our patient group working together.

“The project culminated with us moving all our facilities over to the new building in a 72-hour window, while still providing services for our patients.

“The Bewdley Medical Centre team are delighted with the new facilities which will allow us to provide more care for our patients within the town, including physiotherapy, minor operations and psychiatric care.”

Previously, Dr Matt Davis said: “Bewdley residents can expect a modern, up to date, innovatively and sympathetically designed environment which is spacious, light and airy.

“The positive feedback and support that we have received since the onset of the build has been overwhelming.

“Importantly, patients will still consult in the centre of the town with all the clinicians in our team with whom they have built up a relationship over the years.”

Construction at the site started in June 2015 and has taken just over 12 months to complete.

Bewdley Library will open in the building on August 8, and a spokesman from Worcestershire County Council said the relocation will offer Bewdley residents a brand new library, benefit from a shared location and achieve savings which will help ensure the sustainability of the local library service.
