A FESTIVAL of sport is heading to Cleobury Mortimer over the weekend, with organisers hoping to draw in crowds inspired by the Rio Olympics.

Touch Rugby Festival is being held at Cleobury Mortimer RFC’s ground on Saturday (August 20), with the free event taking place from 12 noon until 11pm.

A 7-a-side touch rugby tournament, organised by Hobsons Brewery and run by the RFU, invites teams of men and women aged 15 and above to enter a winning team.

Event organiser Patrick Cudmore, of Hobsons Brewery, said: "We have set out to organise a fun community event with the Touch Rugby Festival.

"We are encouraging mixed teams and different age groups to take part whether you're a keen rugby player or you may have been inspired by the Rio Olympics and just want to get involved in sport!"

Sport is not the only attraction at the festival, with a 'Junior Battle of the Bands' being held from 1pm until 5pm, followed by live music until 11pm.

Hobsons Brewery will also be serving up their award-winning ales and cider in a range of stalls, while food offerings include a hog roast and Wye Pies.

Other stands at the event will be hosted by the Safer Road Partnership, the local fire engine, mobile police station, scouts, the Women’s Institute and the Royal British Legion.
