WITH just over a month to go, the Severn Valley Railway is preparing to welcome two of the world’s most famous locomotives for one of the biggest steam enthusiasts’ events in its history.

The Pacific Power event, which will run between Thursday, September 22, and Monday, September 26, will feature the highly-anticipated visit of the Flying Scotsman – recently voted the world’s most famous locomotive – and Tornado – the first new, mainline steam locomotives to be built in Britain since the 1960s.

A special VIP day, featuring the Flying Scotsman, and organised by the Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust will also be held on Wednesday, September 21.

Clare Gibbard, marketing and communications manager, said: “It is such a huge privilege for us to be able to welcome arguably two of the biggest names in the world of heritage railways – and, unsurprisingly, the event has attracted huge amounts of attention.

“However, due to the unprecedented level of public demand, we will be putting in place access restrictions during the event, to ensure that everyone coming along has a safe and enjoyable experience on the railway.

“Access to our stations will be limited to event ticket holders only and tickets will not be available on the day.”

To provide visitors with the latest news, access information, timetables and general event, the Railway has launched a special website – svr.co.uk/pacificpower – and organisers of the event are encouraging people to check the website regularly for updates.

The SVR is one of the first heritage railways to welcome Flying Scotsman, which is now owned by the National Rail Museum in York, since its return to passenger service earlier this year.
