WORK has started on a new children’s playground at a Kidderminster school following fundraising by the Parents and Teachers Association.

The Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) at Holy Trinity School, in Birmingham Road, have started work on the playground recently, ready for the new school term in September.

Michelle Howles, PTA chair, said: “This community project has been entirely funded, designed and installed by the school’s community for the benefit of the children and unusually for a project of this kind, undertaken without any Government funding or grants.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous building material donations provided by Gary Watts at local builders merchant Thompson and Parkes, as it meant that this community build, which was supported by more than 50 volunteers, could go ahead.”

Over a period of 18-months, the PTA held film nights, cake sales, Christmas and summer fayres, organised mother’s and father’s day gifts, gave away tubes of sweets in return for empty containers being returned full of 20p’s and more fundraising activities.

As pupil numbers increased, the need for a secondary primary school playground became more and more evident and the PTA’s fundraising campaign began which has resulted in a new 18-piece playground which will benefit the school’s student community for many years.

Mrs Howles added: “This is the second time the PTA has successfully built a playground of this sort at the school and we are extremely grateful to so many local suppliers who have generously helped with this project including M&M Timber, Fast Fit, Thomas Vale, Hire It and, of course, our main supporter, Thompson and Parkes.”
