A CAMPAIGN to turn Kidderminster into a dementia friendly town has got underway.

The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Roadshow visited the town to coincide with the launch of Kidderminster’s campaign.

The Dementia Action Alliance, comprising organisations and businesses from across Kidderminster, was also present at the event.

Members of the public were able to speak with experts from Alzheimer’s Society about their memory concerns or discuss issues facing other people affected by dementia.

Kidderminster’s Mayor, Coun Mary Rayner officiated the launch of the campaign and said: “This effort is about giving time to people with dementia to allow them to lead a better, more independent life.”

Neena Bilku from BME United helped raise awareness on the day. She said: “I wanted to know more about dementia due to my mother’s experiences of the illness. I am here today to spread the word in the community that this isn’t madness: it’s a disease.”

Nina Price, Volunteer Services Coordinator from Kemp Hospice, said: “I want Kemp Hospice to become a dementia friendly organisation and we came along to meet the Dementia Action Alliance members and the public.

“I wish all the best to the organisations involved in making Kidderminster a more dementia friendly town.”

The Roadshow was very well received and people can find out when the Dementia Community Roadshow will be visiting their local area by visiting www.alzheimers.org.uk/roadshow
