HUNDREDS of visitors turned out for Bewdley Horticultural Society’s summer show on Saturday to enjoy a variety of classes, stalls, and prize-winning exhibits.

The event at St George’s Hall on August 20, which was held a week later than usual due to scheduling, welcomed Bewdley’s Deputy Mayor Philip Edmondson to present awards.

Cups were presented throughout the day, with the Banksian Medal – the top accolade – awarded to John Boswell after he claimed the most prize money.

Society Secretary, Stuart Williams, said: "It went terrifically well.

"We had just as many exhibits as previous years, despite the weather and the fact we had pulled the show back a week. We had a terrific response.

"We had a marvellous turn out of people with lots of things going on, from cake stalls to plant stalls and the Deputy Mayor Philip Edmondson presenting the prizes too.

"We are delighted with the outcome and we like to thank everybody that have supported us from the exhibitions, visitors, community and the sponsors."

Other prizes included the George Williams Cup which was won by Ivan Perrins for Roses Class 5, The Norman Webb Cup which was won by Meg Clay for best exhibit of Sweet Peas, and the Mrs C.R.G. Farmer Cup which was claimed by Sally Porter for most points in the domestic classes.

Around 200 people attended the day, with the £1 entry fee helping support the cost of staging the event.
