A SENIOR Wyre Forest councillor will be hitting the right notes next month when he reunites with his old 60s soul band for a charity gig.

The Indigo Set is reforming for the one off gig in the Aggborough Suite at Kidderminster Harriers on Friday, September 16 and will feature guitarist and Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for operational services Ian Hardiman on guitars.

The gig is dedicated to the memory of the band’s former roadie and great friend John Combe and all profits will be split between Spinal Research and an appeal to create a statue of Frank and Wynn Freeman.

Ian said: “The gig has come about because one of our band members Alan Attwood, who emigrated to Australia in 1970, will be holidaying here this summer.

“We had lost touch for many years but recently caught up via email. Alan said he would be back in the UK and suggested we played a reunion gig, performing our 1965-1968 repertoire of songs. The band did meet up about 10 years ago when Alan last visited the UK.

“We decided to dedicate the reunion gig to our very good friend John Combe who was most helpful with finding and choosing material which suited our vocal harmonies.

“He played a huge part in building our reputation and following locally and across the Midlands. We regularly performed five or six nights a week!”

Other band members reuniting on stage with Ian and Alan will be Colin Youngjohns, President of Kidderminster Harriers and Rob Newell, installations manager at Brintons and current bassist for the Robby Blunt Band.

The fifth band member drummer Martin Harrison will attend the gig but is unfortunately unable to play on this occasion.

The gig will see the band performing their 1965-1968 repertoire of songs. The Indigo Set will be supported by local band “Addiction” and tickets priced £5 are available from Ian Hardiman 01562 631139.
