PEOPLE in Kidderminster are being urged to take the fight to cancer in a boxing challenge at a town gym.

Mikey’s Boxing Gym in Whitehouse Road, Kidderminster, has teamed up with the Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) organisation to invite people to get fit and raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The challenge will see people train for and then participate in a boxing match at a glamorous black tie event in front of hundreds of spectators.

Novices who come forward will receive eight weeks of free training with professional coaches before being matched, based on weight, fitness, ability and age, for a bout during an amazing boxing event at Mercure Hotel on December 11 2016.

UWCB has organised events in more than 100 places across the UK and, since 2013, raised in excess of £5m for Cancer Research UK who they officially support.

Michael Mikolajczyk from Mikey's Boxing Gym, said: “People take part in Ultra White Collar Boxing for a variety of reasons, from simply wanting to get fit, step out of their comfort zone to try something they’ve never dreamed of doing before or because they or a loved one has suffered with cancer.

“The training we provide will teach the basic techniques needed for the fight, so inexperience is no barrier. Ultra White Collar Boxing is open to men and women, and while it’s hard work, it is a lot of fun and all for a great cause.”

Emma Hallas, from Cancer Research UK, said: “Everyone at Cancer Research UK appreciates the support from Ultra White Collar Boxing and its partner gyms.

“Every person that has taken part in these boxing challenges and raised money has made a huge difference.

“Reaching £5m is a fantastic achievement and one that will help save lives, and beat cancer sooner. Ultra White Collar Boxing is an incredibly valued supporter of the charity and we are extremely grateful to the team and all the boxers involved.”
