A SINGING workshop has raised more than £400 in aid of the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir after a three hour event in Bewdley.

Got 2 Sing, a Midlands-based group aimed at promoting community choir groups, held an event at Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre in aid of the Pearl of Africa charity.

The charity and its choir are dedicated to providing schools and housing to under-advantaged groups in Uganda.

The event saw an eclectic mix of British and Ugandan music. Vocalists at the event were joined by the children’s choir in performing the song ‘Tuyinuwe’ in its native Swahili.

Beth Dunn, founder and director of Got 2 Sing said: “We had an absolutely amazing afternoon with the children’s choir, their energy was astounding.

"And who would have thought we would all be singing in Swahili by the end of the afternoon.”

Pearl of Africa has been active across the UK promoting the cause by introducing traditional Ugandan music to the British public through the children’s choir.

She added: “It was an absolute pleasure to join them for this wonderful workshop and they were equally delighted with the £400 we raised for charity in the process.”
