A VICTORIAN village pub near Stourport has reopened after a £180,000 facelift to restore it to its former glory.

The New Inn at Shrawley - which is a meeting point for many local clubs and popular with walkers in the nearby Bluebell Woods and has twice won "CAMRA's "pub of the season" award - has undergone a complete makeover by community pub group Admiral Taverns.

A log burning fire has been installed to help to create a warm and cosy atmosphere and a new bar - placed in the middle of the pub to bring the two trading rooms together - makes it easier for staff to operate.

The pub was built in 1890 and the refurbishment, which led to the pub closing for three and a half weeks, has been carried out in a way that retains its original rustic and "down to earth" style.

Licensee and head chef Suzie Fletcher, who runs the pub with Charlie Stewart, said: "Renovating the New Inn, which is a beautiful, traditional pub, is all about creating something that Shrawley and the local community can be proud of.

"Admiral Taverns have shared my vision from the start and it's been their support and passion for the project that has made it all possible.

Alison Martinez, business development manager for Admiral Taverns, said: “In Suzie and Charlie, we have found a wonderful duo who have real drive, and a passion and commitment to offer the community what it needs and deserves. "The journey with them since taking the pub has been one of a shared vision, and I’m delighted that Admiral Taverns have been able to invest in the New Inn, with Suzie and Charlie at the helm leading this vision and delivering a much loved pub."
