AN ADVENT calendar with a difference has been unveiled at West Midland Safari Park.

As part of the Bewdley-based park’s annual Santa Safari event, Santa, Mrs Claus and their elf helpers have taken up residency on the Discovery Trail.

While Santa is occupied meeting all the boys and girls, Mrs Claus and the elves have been busy making sure the animals don't miss out on the festive fun, with gifts being made for lemurs to enjoy in an advent calendar.

On the first day, the ring-tailed, red bellied and white-fronted brown lemurs were treated. While they were sleeping, stuffed small Hessian sacks, with some of the lemurs’ favourite food, were hidden on branches and on logs, and even on the helpers themselves.

When they woke up the lemurs exited their sleeping quarters and sensed something was different. They began to call excitedly to each other and started searching the area, before discovering the food.

The lemurs will continue to receive daily numbered treats, designed in Mrs Claus’ craft club, which will also encourage their natural behaviours, such as foraging.

Park visitors are being encouraged to see the lemurs enjoy their festive treats, and also take part in Mrs Claus' craft club which is currently making Christmas decorations.

Santa Safari is open daily until Christmas Eve, while visitors are being reminded the Adventure Theme Park is closed during the winter season.
