POLICE were called to Kidderminster on Monday night after a woman was seen sitting on a bridge near to the railway line.

West Mercia Police and the British Transport Police were called to Chester Road South shortly after 7pm on Monday night (January 9) due to concerns for the safety of a vulnerable woman.

A spokesman from the British Transport Police said: "We were called to Kidderminster to reports that a woman was sitting on top of a viaduct adjacent to the railway line.

"Trains were stopped while officers from West Mercia Police and the fire service attended the location and attempted to safely remove her from the viaduct.

"The woman, who is aged in her 30s and from Kidderminster, was guided off the tracks by officers and taken to safety.

"She was interviewed and given a caution for railway obstruction."

The spokesman added that she was assessed in custody to ensure she was fit before proceeding. 

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said no injuries were reported.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Kidderminster fire station also attended the scene.
