A KIDDERMINSTER student has scooped a £1,000 scholarship award from the University of Worcester in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements.

Joe Pilsbury, 22, from Wolverley, who is now in his final year of his media and cultural studies degree, was presented with the scholarship by the university's vice chancellor and chief executive, Professor David Green, at a special ceremony.

He earned the award in recognition of outstanding achievement through the 2015/16 academic year.

The former Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre pupil said: "Getting this award was fantastic because it gave me an extra bit of validation for the work I have put in.

"University can be very stressful, especially in second year when the grades start counting towards your final degree.

"So getting top grades and then an award on top was a real boost to my confidence."

Professor Green added: "We are very proud of each and every student who earned an academic scholarship this year.

"I am delighted that 2016 proved to be an all-time record year, which is a true testament to the hard work and ability of the students and to the inspirational teaching of the university's staff.

"We find that winning a scholarship further improves our students' already excellent job prospects on graduation as well as providing welcome practical financial support."
