LEGAL papers have been served on a Stourport primary school following a complaint about the restraining of a former pupil.

Solicitor Shazu Miah, who is also a Wyre Forest District councillor, is representing the family of a boy – who does not wish to be named – in a personal injury claim against St Bartholomew’s School.

Head teacher Susan Helps confirmed the school had been served with legal papers but could not comment any further at this stage.

The claim relates to a playground dispute that took place back in 2014, when the boy was nine and involved in an altercation with another pupil.

But his family are unhappy with the restraining technique used on him by a member of staff, which they claim left him with physical and mental injuries.

The boy, now aged 11, has since left St Bartholomew’s and attends a Kidderminster secondary school.

Councillor Miah said: “The young boy sustained injuries and suffered psychological effects because of the events that took place.

“The claim is still ongoing and we are awaiting medical reports from tests that have been carried out. We are expecting these to return in the next couple of weeks.”

St Bartholomew’s Head teacher Susan Helps said: “I can confirm the school has received a claim submitted by a solicitor on behalf of a former pupil. I am unable to comment on details.”
