THE kindness of a mystery man from Kidderminster sent Facebook into a frenzy week when he made a snap decision to buy wedding flowers for a couple he'd never met who were tying the knot on Valentine's Day at a Stourbridge hospice.

Paul Bruce and Emma Davies married on Tuesday February 14 at Mary Stevens Hospice in a “whirlwind” ceremony which was put together in less than 24 hours.

The couple wanted to fulfil Paul's wish of saying I Will to his sweetheart Emma.

But the kind gesture of a stranger who stepped in unprompted to buy two dozen red roses for the couple on their big day made the poignant ceremony even more of an occasion to remember.

Hospice bosses later took to social media site Facebook to thank the mystery man for his generosity which was sparked when he overheard staff from Mary Stevens chatting in Wollaston florists Websters.

The man, who was standing in the queue by the counter, reportedly heard the flowers were for a wedding at the Oldswinford hospice and he stepped in and said: "I'll pay for those."

Hospice staff have described the kindly gentleman from Kidderminster, who wishes to remain anonymous, as a "truly wonderful human being" and they posted on their Facebook site: "We just want him to know how grateful we are and how big a difference those flowers made.

"Such a simple, beautiful act of total kindness meant there hasn’t been a dry eye in the house, and this man has provided Paul and Emma with a memory they'll cherish forever."

The couple, who have been together for five years, could never have imagined their bittersweet declaration of love would touch so many hearts in the community and Emma, aged 36, said: "It’s all been a bit of a whirlwind. We only decided to get married on Monday and everyone at the hospice has been incredible in making sure we could have a truly wonderful Valentine’s Day together."

News of the random act of kindness on their big day, on the most romantic day of the year, spread like wild fire on Facebook - with thousands of people congratulating the couple, sharing their story and commending the big-hearted man who made their day with his selfless donation.

One poster said on the social network site: "How nice to know there are still some wonderful, thoughtful people about."

While another said: "It restores your faith in mankind."

Emma, from Stourbridge, said the kind-hearted man's gesture, which even got a mention on the TV news, had made their momentous day "that little bit more special" and she said she and Paul from Dudley "can't thank him enough for what he's done".

Dan Malin, of Mary Stevens Hospice, added: "It was a beautiful act of kindness, which meant a special couple could have the Valentine’s Day they deserve. There are some incredible people in this world.”
