A STOURPORT couple who suffered the devastating loss of their stillborn son are planning a fundraising evening to support the campaign to raise £60,000 for a new bereavement suite at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Becky Yarranton and her partner Paul Dancyger are supporting the fundraising appeal, having benefitted from the use of the existing facilities in the maternity department at the hospital in January 2016, following the stillbirth of their son, Henry.

The heartbroken couple said the current facility – the Fay Turner Suite – and the support they were given by the staff could not “heal the pain” but helped them build real memories.

They are now in the middle of planning a fundraising evening to support and raise funds for the Maternity Bereavement Suite appeal.

Their event will take place on on Friday, November 17, at Spring Grove House, at West Midland Safari Park.

Becky said: "Paul and I are in the middle of planning a fundraising evening. We have a disco, live music and food for the evening and tickets will be on sale very soon.

"We are also going to be doing a raffle. We have a few prizes donated already but would like the help of the public and companies - if anyone can donate anything for this brilliant cause.

"All money raised from our event will go towards the new bereavement suite."

She added: "We found the existing bereavement suite at Worcestershire Royal Hospital such a special place. We did not know of such a place until we lost our baby.

"We were welcome to stay there as long as we wanted, to spend time with our baby and family in privacy.

"The midwives were amazing - they couldn't do enough for us. They would often come to see if we were ok, bring us food and supplies during our stay.

"The most amazing person of all is a person call Trudy Berlet - she is the bereavement midwife at the hospital. She looks after all the families who lose a baby.

"Over the last year she has been in constant touch with us and helped us through this difficult time.

"We can't thank her enough. Without this amazing lady I don't know how we would of gotten through the past year."

The new bereavement suite will provide a space for parents who have experienced the tragedy of a stillbirth or the loss of their baby post-birth, where they can grieve their loss of their baby.

The new suite will be an addition to the existing facility – which will also be refurbished.

Funds raised through the appeal will go towards converting a room in the maternity department into a suitable space which will include a kitchen and access into the memorial garden, as well as fixtures and furnishings.
