A WOLVERLEY headteacher is among a group of professionals who will be attempt the National Three Peaks Challenge for charity.

Bryn Thomas, headteacher at Wolverley CE Secondary School, will join nine other men to tackle the gruelling climb of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours on Saturday, June 24.

The ambitious team has an average age of over 45 and boasts two headteachers, a deputy headteacher, businessmen, two doctors and an ex-professional cricketer.

The group will raise funds for Parkinson's UK, Sunfield Children's Home, Rory the Robot Appeal, Cancer Research UK and Mary Stevens Hospice.

Bryn said: "Wolverley's school motto of 'ambition unlimited' is something we promote to our students every day.

"I have been training hard as I am not as young or as fit as I would like to be. The Three Peaks represents a huge challenge for me and I will use the ethos of our school and the support of the students as motivation when the going gets tough.

"I think it is so important to lead by example and I hope that the students at Wolverley will gain something from my ambition to succeed."

Richard Thomas, who lives in Kidderminster and pulled the team together, added: "This is a tough challenge where our fitness and determination as well as organisation and teamwork will be tested.

"We will not only climb the mountains but make our way from Scotland to the Lake District, and finally Snowdonia in a very tight time window, with little chance for sleep."

Also taking part in the challenge is Mark House, Tom James, Gavin Haynes, Mark Pollard, Rob White, Dave Scriven, Andrew Jones and Richard Harrison.

The team have been supported by Alliance in Partnership and Academic Choice, West Midland Safari Park, Caters Photographic and the New Delhi, in Hagley.

Expedition food will be prepared and donated by La Petite Gare, in Kidderminster, while the team's specialist kit has been supplied by local branches of Go Outdoors and Ultimate Outdoors.
