A SUMMER ball is set to raise funds to buy equipment to help a Kidderminster youngster who suffers from a rare chromosome disorder stand.

Megan's Summer Ball has been organised by the family of Kidderminster three-year-old, Megan Ford - who is one of a dozen in the UK to suffer from the rare chromosome disorder, Trisomy 9 Mosaic (T9M).

The disorder is caused by having three copies of chromosome number nine in the body.

The summer ball will take place at the Gainsborough House Hotel, on Friday, June 30, from 6.30pm and funds raised will be split between the T9M Trust and to help purchase equipment to help Megan stand and hopefully walk.

Joanne Ford, Megan's mother, said: "We have organised this event to bring together families that enjoy having fun together but don't often get the opportunity to go out.

"It is open to all areas of the community - disabled and non-disabled, young, old, singles, couples, families and groups.

"We will have a DJ for dancing, a funky prop booth with photos available to purchase and download for a small fee, a sweet stand, face painting, games and tombola, and fabulous hot food and cakes provided by the Gatsby Emporium.

"We have some amazing raffle prizes from West Midland Safari Park tickets, afternoon tea and cakes from Hogarths Stone Manor, photography voucher from Lavender Lily Photography and hair voucher from Gatsby and Belles, plus much more.

"We also have a signed Wolves shirt and a signed Wolves football and a luxurious rug from SCS worth £300 which we will be auctioning on the night, but anyone interested that can't attend the ball can submit bids prior to the event or get in contact with us to view the items."

She added: "We are looking forward to welcoming the Mayor of Kidderminster, Nicky Gale, and, of course, raising important funds to help Meg stand - and maybe even walk - wonky legs and all."

Megan's story can be followed on Facebook, by searching 'Megan; Trisomy 9 Mosaic Star'.

Tickets are £15 for adults and £7.50 for children. Under three's go free.

Organisers are also still looking for businesses who may wish to sponsor part of the event or purchase tickets to allow a family to attend that can't afford to.
