A KIDDERMINSTER farmer made an emergency call to the RSPCA fearing some sheep were in trouble – only for officers to find they were actually balloons stuck in a bush!

The animal welfare charity has lifted the lid on some of the more a-moo-sing calls received out of the 1.1million they get every year.

Calls come into the RSPCA’s national control centre from concerned animal lovers and specially-trained staff must determine whether officers are able to help or whether advice or other agencies are best suited to assist.

But not all calls turn out to be what they first appear and the charity revealed a number of jobs from 2017 that turned out to be a hoot.

The Kidderminster one took place on May 10 and left animal collection officer Sophie Wilson feeling totally deflated.

The call out was to rescue four sheep tangled up in brambles. Sophie clambered for 20 minutes up a steep hill only to discover six balloons.

A farmer had raised the alarm after a worried elderly neighbour had gone to him concerned that four ewes were stuck in the hedgerow.

Sophie said: “He was clearly very worried for the sheep and had spent two days calling local farmers to try to get someone to rescue the sheep before alerting us.

“You can imagine my surprise when I arrived to find four white balloons and two blue bobbing around in the breeze!”
