A PROFESSIONAL Kidderminster orchestra is urgently looking for a new backer to save a planned concert in the town from being scrapped.

One of The Kidderminster Festival Orchestra’s (TKFO) financial partners has had to withdraw support for the group, putting its spring show at the Town Hall at risk of being cancelled.

Although a concert in Shrewsbury will go ahead in June, TKFO needs to find £4,500 by February 15 to ensure the April 7 show goes ahead.

It was put together by artistic director and principal conductor Annette Jackson, with the initiative receiving strong support from the Musician’s Union.

The orchestra made its triumphant debut with a well-received show at Kidderminster Town Hall in November.

Among the musicians who delighted the audience that night included BBC Symphony Orchestra principal trumpet player Alan Thomas, leader Shulah Oliver and cellist Rebecca Rose.

Annette said: “Due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control The Kidderminster Festival Orchestra has lost one of its financial partners.

“Although the June 17 Shrewsbury Theatre Severn concert is secure, the April 7 spring concert at Kidderminster Town Hall is in serious jeopardy.

“We are seeking help to raise a total of £4,500 by February 15 to save this event from being cancelled and not disappoint our growing audience.

“So we are appealing for any local businesses and music lovers who might be able to help us to get in touch. We would all be enormously grateful.”
