A GREEN-fingered Kidderminster horticulturist will be displaying her delightful garden again as part of a charity show – at the grand age of 90.

Kidderminster Horticultural Society member Dorothy Hadwell celebrated her birthday last month and is showing no signs of hanging up her gardening gloves as she puts her creation on display next month, as she has done for a quarter of a century.

Hers will be one of 10 gardens and allotments opening their gates at the KHS Garden Open Day on Sunday, July 1 from 10am to 6pm.

All proceeds raised from the annual event will go to the gardeners chosen charities which this year are Acorns Children’s Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Organisers said they are hoping to raise a similar amount to the £4,000 raised last year.

Sue Cooke, from KHS, said: “Dorothy was 90 last month and has been opening her garden every year for charity for the last 25 years or so.

“KHS members volunteer to open their garden for other members and the public to explore and this is a great fun social event, and a superb day out.

“Some of the garden volunteers also kindly sell refreshments, homemade cake and cuttings from their garden. The gardeners are always to hand for people to ask questions about aspects of their garden.

Tickets cost £5 per person to view any or all of the gardens and are available from John Beard Tools & Ironmongery (Bridge Street, Kidderminster), and Stourport Photo Centre.

People can also ring 01562 631001, 01299 403539 or 01562 740430 to find their nearest garden.
