HEALTH chiefs are asking Wyre Forest patients to come forward and nominate star NHS staff worthy of the first ever Patient Choice Award.

Worcestershire Primary Care Trust (PCT) holds an annual staff awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of its health workers, and this year is asking patients to get involved for the first time.

The PCT is encouraging patients to nominate the NHS staff who they feel have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help patients in their everyday role.

Worcestershire PCT employs more than 2,000 staff in its provider arm, including district nurses, school nurses, health visitors, physiotherapists, podiatrists, occupational therapists, specialist nursing teams, palliative care staff, speech and language therapists, screening service staff, prison health staff, and community dentists.

The PCT also has staff working in support services such as porters, catering, maintenance and technical services and housekeeping, as well as admin and reception staff, and equipment loan staff. Together with doctors and consultants they all help to run PCT services across the county, both out in the community and at five community hospitals and the Wyre Forest GP unit.

Teresa French, director of provider services, said: “Our dedicated health workers at Worcestershire PCT work tirelessly around the clock to ensure that patients across the county receive the best possible treatment and care in the best possible environment.

“We are sure that there are many patients out there feel that our staff deserve recognition for the excellent work that they do, and we would encourage them to let us know by nominating them for our first ever Patient Choice Award.”

Patients are asked to write to Worcestershire PCT with their nomination, explaining why they feel a particular member of staff deserves the award.

The winner will be decided upon by a special patients’ panel, made up of PCT service users.

Send your nominations to Rebecca Bourne, Communications Manager, Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, Wildwood, Wildwood Drive, Worcester, WR4 9BR or email pct.communications@worcspct.nhs.uk by Friday, January 9, 2009.

Include your name, address and contact number. The awards ceremony is due to take place on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Worcester Rugby Club.
