ATHLETICS legends, Sebastian Coe and David Moorcroft, are appearing at the first Wyre Forest Sports Festival, which will be raising money for the Millbrook Suite.

The event will take place at the Ramada Hotel in Bewdley on Friday, September 18, from noon.

Children and young people from across the district will have the opportunity to take part in a range of sporting events, including athletics, football, rugby, cricket and golf.

There will also be more unusual sports on show, including street surfing, tae-kwon-do and kickboxing.

Sports clubs exhibiting on the day include Kidderminster Harriers, Kidderminster Carolians, Bewdley Cricket Club, Street Surfing UK, Stourport Athletics Club and Bewdley Rowing Club.

Alongside the sporting activities, IJM Media is also offering an opportunity for local businesses to take part in an exhibition and meet Olympic and Commonwealth athletics star, David Moorcroft at a special lunch, while Lord Coe will be visiting the hotel’s leisure centre on the same day.

To raise money for the appeal, the Ramada is holding a barbecue throughout the day and there will be a charity raffle as part of the David Moorcroft lunch. Businesses exhibiting at the event will also be encouraged to make a donation.

John McGaskill, general manager of the Ramada, said: “We’re excited to be welcoming David Moorcroft to Wyre Forest, where we are very proud of the achievements of our schoolchildren and sports clubs.

“We hope he will be impressed by what our region has to offer and maybe we will discover a new potential Olympic star. We are also delighted to be able to continue our fund-raising for the Millbrook Suite.”

The lunch with David Moorcroft will start at 12.30pm and tickets and tables are available by contacting Jayne Greene at IJM Media on 07792 776585 or by email at jayne@ijmmedia.co.uk. You can also book online, at www.ijmmedia.co.uk .
